Year 1 have been mapping their local area this week. They used maps of Wolverhampton and Whitmore Reans to create their own map and then added symbols to show landmarks and key features

Year 1 Writing
Year 1 have had a busy week, developing their ideas before they write about the story The Little Red Elf. The children have created their own story planning maps, developed actions for the story and used freeze frame drama techniques to understand what the characters are doing and feeling.

Year 1 Science
In Year 1 science this week, the children were challenged to order sounds from loudest to quietest before considering how they might group different animals. The children worked collaboratively at first, as a whole class, before working with their partners to decide their own sorting criteria's.

Year 1 Geography
Geography this week in Year 1, has been focussed on maps. In their first task the children were challenged to match map symbols with pictures, before mapping our own school. The children used simple map symbols to show parking, footpaths, entrances and trees on the school grounds.

Year 1 Writing
Year 1 have completed their alternative Handa's Surprise stories this week. They worked hard to make changes to the animals, fruits and vegetables that we would have in this country. They were also able to use adjectives effectively to describe the animals and fruits and bring a clear picture to the readers minds. The children also then rehearsed and performed their sentences to the class!

Year 4 - History
Children in year 4 had a fun and engaging day during their trip to Bosworth. They met a Roman soldier and Boudicca, explored real and replica Roman artefacts and used clay to create their own Roman coins. It was a fantastic opportunity to build on our history learning and experience the Roman period first hand.

Year 1 Writing
Year 1 have been busy again developing their writing skills. We have been enjoying reading the book 'Handa's Surprise', and so last week they wrote sentences about the animals taking Handa's fruit and used adjectives to describe the fruit!

Year 1 Maths
Last week, we held our first maths workshop for year 1 parents. We had a fantastic attendance and the children and their parents were very busy exploring a variety of different resources and games to support the learning and recall of number bonds to 10. The children really enjoyed spending time with their parents learning together.

Year 1 Music
Year 1 had a really exciting African drumming workshop on Thursday. They had an amazing instructor who told them all about the history of the drums, how and what they are made of before playing a variety of different beats and rhythms. Although it was noisy we had lots of fun!

Year 1 DT
5 ... 4 ... 3 ... 2 ... 1 ... blast off with DT in Year 1 today, as the children brought their designs to life! The children focussed their attention on creating the orbiter and rocket jets for the space ships, using their planned design to ensure they used the right colours and shapes!
