Year 1 Science
Today in Year 1, we had a special guest. Mrs Housley's mum came and spent time helping the children repot sunflowers that she has grown for them. The children were then inspired to create some art work representing what their sunflowers will become.

Year 1 have started their new writing journey this week. It is based on the book Winnie and Wilbur under the sea. Today the children worked collaboratively to create story maps. They will use these tomorrow to retell the story using sentences and actions.

Year 1 PSHE
As part of Mental Health Week, this week, Year 1 considered how our mental health can be supported though different activities, such as talking about how you feel, being kind to others and spending time with those who make us feel happy. The children then created a 'compliments card' for someone else in the classroom to share a positive message.

Maths in Year 1 has been focussed on capacity. The children have explored this topic using non standard and standard measures. Using different vocabulary such as full, empty , nearly full and half empty to compare, describe and order containers.

Year 4 - Children’s Mental Health Week

Year 1 Writing and Science
In our writing lesson today, the children practised their instructional language by creating a video on how to plant a bean. They then used their own instructions to plant up their own beans that they have been growing in science.

Year 1 have explored data today in their maths lessons and made their first bar charts, based on images they were given. Some of the children used symbols, some used colours and some used counters to represent their data.

This week in Maths, the Year 1 children have continued to use their knowledge of groups of 10, to begin to explore larger 2-digit numbers using different maths equipment. They have worked with a partner and then more independently to identify how many tens are in a number and then how many extra ones there are.

Year 1 RE
The children completed their topic about the Sikh religion this week, by creating posters about their knowledge of this faith. They first discussed key themes from the religion and how these relate to them in school and at home. The children used images and words to convey their ideas.

Year 1 Maths
Maths in Year 1 this week has all been about multiples of 10. Initially the children identified if groups of objects were 10 or not 10. Then they made a multiple of 10 with resources. As their confidence has grown the children have then used resources and jottings to help them add and subtract multiples of 10.
