Maths in Year 1 this week has all been about multiples of 10. Initially the children identified if groups of objects were 10 or not 10. Then they made a multiple of 10 with resources. As their confidence has grown the  children have then used resources and jottings to help them add and subtract multiples of 10.

This week in our writing lessons, Year 1 have been exploring the use of the conjunction 'and'. They practised saying the word when joining 2 ideas together, then they created sentences using the conjunction by selecting strips of writing. Finally they have written sentences themselves using and.

This week Year 1 continued investigating plants. We focussed on what seeds need to help them grow before 'planting' bean seeds and starting their bean diaries. The children will have opportunities each day to observe and record any changes.

The children shared 'All About Me' boxes which contained personal items about them, they shared these with their class, explaining why each item was important.

The children have meet and handled Giant African Snails and have sorting images of minibeasts against two criteria.

The children have been finding doubles in Maths.

The children have been inspired by Henri Matisse creating their own version of 'The Snail' collage

The children are really increasing in confidence are exploring their sentence writing skills.

The children used ABAB patterns which they had been exploring in Maths to produce their Eid cards.

One of our parents came into Reception and shared his experience of Chinese New Year in China.

The children enjoyed participating in this workshop using a range of control technology.

In History this week, we began our next topic all about how Wolverhampton City Centre has changed over the last 100 years. We spent lots of time looking at and discussing images of the centre from the last century. The children were fascinated with the images and this generated many questions. The children then created their own timeline to show some of the changes.

At the start of the week, we had a PSHE day in school. The children revisited and recalled the school values and our school relentless routines. We started with a circle time and sharing ideas before the children made creative responses to this, many of which are displayed in the classroom.

This week, Year 1 have started their new topic, and will be learning all about plants. The children shared their ideas about they already know about this topic and what they would like to learn about. Then they spent time observing and drawing different fruits and vegetables on the outside and then on the inside to show the difference and where the seeds are. Some of the children then went on to create fact files about their fruits.

In the Spring Term, Year 6 enjoyed exploring the topic 'Faces', focusing predominantly on the abstract faces of Pablo Picasso. They drew continuous line drawings using different mediums and used these as templates for wire sculptures. They explored tone to create cubist faces and had a go at collography to print.

Year 5 explored 'People in Action' during the Spring Term. This involved finding out about the work of both Keith Haring and Alberto Giacometti. They had opportunities to draw with different mediums and create foil sculptures. They placed collage materials carefully to create the illusion of movement.

Year 4 focused on the topic 'Trees' in the Spring Term. They used charcoal for observation drawings of trees and also looked at Gustav Klimt's 'Tree of Life' to inspire their own work. This included painting curly trees and also making sculptures in a similar style.

Year 3's Art topic for the Spring Term was 'Flowers.' Inspired by the work of Georgia O'Keeffe, they produced magnified flowers in different ways including macrophotography and drawing using oil pastels. We were really proud of the results.
