Today in Year 1, we had a special guest. Mrs Housley's mum came and spent time helping the children repot sunflowers that she has grown for them. The children were then inspired to create some art work representing what their sunflowers will become.

During their PSHE lesson, the Year 1 children were exploring which people are important to them and why. They then created an image of an important person to them and shared with the class why they had chosen this person.

Year 1 have been busy practising reading and spelling the 100 common exception words they are learning. They have tested each other, written them in different ways and played games to support this.

Year 1 have started their new writing journey this week. It is based on the book Winnie and Wilbur under the sea. Today the children worked collaboratively to create story maps. They will use these tomorrow to retell the story using sentences and actions.

As part of Mental Health Week, this week, Year 1 considered how our mental health can be supported though different activities, such as talking about how you feel, being kind to others and spending time with those who make us feel happy. The children then created a 'compliments card' for someone else in the classroom to share a positive message.

Maths in Year 1 has been focussed on capacity. The children have explored this topic using non standard and standard measures. Using different vocabulary such as full, empty , nearly full and half empty to compare, describe and order containers.

Science in Year 1 this week has been based on leaf and tree identification. The children worked collaboratively to find and collect leaves from outside and then they worked to identify them and describe what they looked like.

Year 1 have been very busy writing instructions about how to plant beans! The children worked hard to order the instructions carefully and use bossy adjectives to help make their writing clear!

This week, Year 4 have been taking part in Children’s Mental Health Week. 💛 We explored different ways we can look after our mental health and well-being. Children created some thoughtful and creative pieces of work, sharing ideas!

In our writing lesson today, the children practised their instructional language by creating a video on how to plant a bean. They then used their own instructions to plant up their own beans that they have been growing in science.

Year 1 have explored data today in their maths lessons and made their first bar charts, based on images they were given. Some of the children used symbols, some used colours and some used counters to represent their data.

Year 1 have been busy today making their own representations of plants, making sure they include the main parts or roots, stem, leaves and flowers. The children used a mixture of resources to create their plants and then labelled them to show their knowledge.

Year 4 investigated the water cycle by observing how heat causes water to evaporate, condense on a cool surface and form droplets.

It was wonderful to see parents getting involved in our Writing for Pleasure workshop. Thank you for working together to inspire a love of writing for the children.

This week in Science, Year 1 have continued to explore the theme of plants. This session was focussed on identifying, drawing and then labelling the main parts of a plant. The children then share their ideas about the purpose of these parts.

This week in Maths, the Year 1 children have continued to use their knowledge of groups of 10, to begin to explore larger 2-digit numbers using different maths equipment. They have worked with a partner and then more independently to identify how many tens are in a number and then how many extra ones there are.

The children completed their topic about the Sikh religion this week, by creating posters about their knowledge of this faith. They first discussed key themes from the religion and how these relate to them in school and at home. The children used images and words to convey their ideas.

Today in PSHE, the children in Year 1 completed their topic about online safety by creating rules and posters for younger children with tips about how to keep yourself safe online.

Maths in Year 1 this week has all been about multiples of 10. Initially the children identified if groups of objects were 10 or not 10. Then they made a multiple of 10 with resources. As their confidence has grown the children have then used resources and jottings to help them add and subtract multiples of 10.

This week in our writing lessons, Year 1 have been exploring the use of the conjunction 'and'. They practised saying the word when joining 2 ideas together, then they created sentences using the conjunction by selecting strips of writing. Finally they have written sentences themselves using and.
