Year 1 History
In History this week, we began our next topic all about how Wolverhampton City Centre has changed over the last 100 years. We spent lots of time looking at and discussing images of the centre from the last century. The children were fascinated with the images and this generated many questions. The children then created their own timeline to show some of the changes.

Year 1 PSHE
At the start of the week, we had a PSHE day in school. The children revisited and recalled the school values and our school relentless routines. We started with a circle time and sharing ideas before the children made creative responses to this, many of which are displayed in the classroom.

Year 1 Science
This week, Year 1 have started their new topic, and will be learning all about plants. The children shared their ideas about they already know about this topic and what they would like to learn about. Then they spent time observing and drawing different fruits and vegetables on the outside and then on the inside to show the difference and where the seeds are. Some of the children then went on to create fact files about their fruits.

Year 6 Art - Faces
In the Spring Term, Year 6 enjoyed exploring the topic 'Faces', focusing predominantly on the abstract faces of Pablo Picasso. They drew continuous line drawings using different mediums and used these as templates for wire sculptures. They explored tone to create cubist faces and had a go at collography to print.

Year 5 Art - People in Action
Year 5 explored 'People in Action' during the Spring Term. This involved finding out about the work of both Keith Haring and Alberto Giacometti. They had opportunities to draw with different mediums and create foil sculptures. They placed collage materials carefully to create the illusion of movement.

Year 4 Art - Trees
Year 4 focused on the topic 'Trees' in the Spring Term. They used charcoal for observation drawings of trees and also looked at Gustav Klimt's 'Tree of Life' to inspire their own work. This included painting curly trees and also making sculptures in a similar style.

Year 3 Art - Flowers
Year 3's Art topic for the Spring Term was 'Flowers.' Inspired by the work of Georgia O'Keeffe, they produced magnified flowers in different ways including macrophotography and drawing using oil pastels. We were really proud of the results.

Year 2 Art - Circles
Year 2 explored 'Circles' in the Spring Term. Inspired by the work of Kandinsky, they printed circles and drew concentric circles using different media. They produced collage circles in the style of Alma Thomas and then used plasticene to make coil pots. Well done Year 2!

Year 1 Art - Dragons
In the Spring Term, Year 1 explored 'Dragons' inspired by the book 'Zog.' They were able to practice and improve drawing Zog, explore colour mixing and experiment with lines and patterns to produce a range of fabulous artwork.

In our RE lessons, the Year 1 children have been focussing on the importance of the Langar in a Gurdwara. Here some of the children worked collaboratively to design their own Langar.

In maths, Year 1 have been learning how to double amounts of objects and then half them using concrete resources. They are noticing the link between the numbers they are using.

The children worked exceptionally hard last week in Year 1 to write about their trip to the safari park. The children focussed on using adverbs of time and making sure they use accurate punctuation in their sentences.

Year 1 have been consolidating their knowledge of odd and even numbers in their Mastering Number lessons this week. They worked collaboratively to sort Numicon into odd and even pieces.

Year 1 Writing
Year 1 have been working on their oral sentence building this week in English, in preparation for writing about their trip to the Safari Park. The children selected pictures and used sentence stems to share their ideas about these animals. Then they planned their recount and used this to rehearse sentences that they will write.

In Science this week, Year 1 have been learning about how the number of hours of daylight change in the different seasons. They created sunlight maps to help them recall and use their knowledge of this.

The children have been exploring the Christmas story using characters and working collaboratively to order the events and retell the Christian Story.

Year 1 RE
The children have continued their exploration of Sikhism this week by looking at the Langar that is inside the Gurdwara, They have found out about why it is there and who can use it. Some of the children created vegetarian meals that could be served in the langar and some of the children have developed their ideas of how Sikhism values contribute to the preparation, serving and eating of the food.

Year 4 Science
In Science this week, Year 4 explored melting by testing a range of materials including ice, chocolate, butter, jelly and candle wax. The children observed changes over time and learned that different materials melt at different temperatures.

Year 1 Science
Year 1 enjoyed their science based visit to the safari park this week. We were very lucky with the weather as many of the animals were out enjoying the sunshine! It was amazing to see penguins up close too as we have spent lots of learning time writing about them and understanding their adaptations.
