In maths this week, Year 1 have completed their thinking about teen numbers with a teen number hunt in the classroom and a game using dice. They worked hard to partition the numbers and show their understanding of how they are made.

Year 1 started their new Geography topic this week and are beginning to investigate 'why penguins don't fly'. They spent time observing and recording their ideas about what Antarctica is like and what animals live there.

The children were inspired by their poetry week and spent time planning and creating their own poems based on what makes them happy.

Y6 have produced some fantastic diary entries based on the amazing book Oranges in No Mans Land. Well done :)

We have continued our learning about teen numbers this week in Year 1. The children have been refining their knowledge of partitioning and problem solving to identify missing numbers in an equation.

In Maths last week, Year 1 were investigating 'teen numbers'. The children looked at what numbers they are made of by partitioning and combining them and understanding how their names are made.

Year 1 have had lots of fun during their Number Day celebrations. We started with art using paint, loose parts, Lego and pens to create symmetrical artwork. They then had to work systematically to solve the problem of scarves and hats for the penguin from our story Lost and Found. Finally they finished off their morning with number and movements - following instructions to move in different ways for a set number of times!

In Science last week, Year 1 continued their exploration of seasonal changes, focusing on Summer. We were very lucky as the sun came out in the afternoon and we were able to use the UV beads to show the strength of the sun in different areas of the playground. We discussed sun safety and what could happen if you look at the sun with your eyes.

Y5 have had a great Numbers day! They explored patterns in timetables and made some interesting discoveries; they developed their measuring skills by accurately measuring their arm lengths and displaying this data on bar graphs. They also used their problem solving skills to find a key code to escape a problem solving challenge!

Inspired by his style and our class text The Ice Palace, children designed their own skeletal trees. They then filled their designs with numbers to combine maths and art in a creative way. Y5 children have published their final pieces of writing based on the Highway man. We are very pleased with the final results :)

Children in Year 4 learnt to classify faeces and identified that herbivore faeces is usually round, carnivore faeces is often long and pointy, and omnivore faeces is thick and rectangular in shape.

Year 1 were set a strange challenge today in their PE lesson. They are working on fundamental movement skills and have been working on throwing and catching. Today, they were challenged to catch a ball in a cone!

Year 1 have been busy in their writing lesson today. They had an immersive session with snow and ice to help them generate adjectives for their writing next week.

We have been busy collecting adjectives about what we can see in the South Pole part of our story Lost and Found. The children worked collaboratively and creatively to create some fantastic adjective word banks.

This afternoon the children in Year 1 have continued their exploration of seasonal changes - today's focus was Spring. The children watched images and videos and made 'notes' about what animals, weather and activities you might see in Spring before using that information to complete a task in their books.

The children in Reception have really enjoyed engaging in small world space adventures, using phrases like ‘5,4,3,2,1, lift off!!’ and ‘ Look out, look out the rocket ship is coming!’ They have also created their own stories, such as one child’s figure climbed the tower to be able to communicate with them.

Children in Year 1 have completed their first 'Lost and Found' writing journey, based on the book by Oliver Jeffers. They have worked exceptionally hard to ensure their sentences make sense, have the correct punctuation and that their handwriting is neat! I think you will agree that have done very well!

The children have continued their work on Seasonal Change in science this week, with a focus of winter. The children considered what could be observed with the weather and temperature and what happens in these seasons. They then explored how ice and snow are formed. They created their own crystals and then made 'snow', which was great fun!
