Year 6 have been learning all about Mountains. Identifying, comparing and contrasting the most famous mountains, explaining how they are formed and discovering who was first to conquer Mount Everest.
Did you know that fossils of sea animals have been found on the summit of Everest!

Year 4 - Earthquakes

Year 4 are currently learning all about Earthquakes around the world. They have been using lots of new ambitious vocabulary, learning what causes earthquakes and identifying areas that are more likely to experience earthquakes and why.
Surprisingly, the largest earthquakes don't always cause the most death and destruction! Ask a Year 4 pupil why?
Year 2 - Where does our food come from?

In Year 2 we have been learning about where some of our food comes from and why.
We began by identifying dairy farms in Devon and looking into why this location is ideal for dairy farms. How our milk and cheese is produced and delivered to our supermarkets.
We then looked into the growing, harvesting and importing of bananas. Where do they come from and why? Finally we learnt all about sugar, identifying and describing how sugar beet is grown, refined and delivered to our shops. We also looked into how much sugar we should be eating daily and how to stay healthy by not eating too much.

Year 5 - Carding Mill Valley

What a day!
What a place!
Year 5 measured the width and depth of the river, they also calculated its velocity using a cork and excellent measuring and timing skills. In addition to this, they investigated the type of animals living in the water which is an indication of how clean the water is. That was just the morning activities!
After lunch, we headed on a scenic walk where we saw a ford, confluence and the best view ever!
Year 1 - Location Location Location?

Year 1 are looking at the topic 'Why do we love the sea so much' this term, and we started off by looking at pictures of lots of different locations. The children were asked to discuss the location with their partners, and then to try and put them into 3 groups, however they were not told what groups to put them into. They had to look at the pictures carefully and decide which pictures they thought went together. Most children correctly grouped them into buildings/build up areas (URBAN AREAS), countryside and fields (RURAL AREAS) and the sea/beach (COAST). We learnt the geographical names and then looked at pictures of locations that broke the rules and fitted into two categories of location, and why that was. We had some very interesting discussions today!
Year 3 - Climates

Children have enjoyed learning about climates in their Geography lessons. Children have being reading, using maps and looked at climate graphs to learn about the different climates around the world.
Year 2 - Comparing Kampong Ayer to Wolverhampton

In Year 2 we have been making comparisons between our lives, living in Wolverhampton, and those of people who live in the small village of Kampong Ayer in Malaysia.
We have identified and compared the location of where we live in the UK with the location of Kampong Ayer, and how the distance from the Equator, North and South Poles affect the weather in both locations.
We have described and compared the types of homes and transport in both locations, looking at the similarities and differences between them.

Year 3 - Megacities

Year 3 have been learning all about Megacities. They have identified and located the top 10 cities in the UK and compared them with megacities across the world. They have been describing and explaining what makes a megacity and understanding why people choose to live in them.
Did you know that over half of the world's population now live in towns and cities - in the UK this figure has reached 80%!
Year 5 - National Parks

In Year 5 we have been learning about National Parks. Today we used Digimap for schools to compare and contrast our location to Exmoor - it was very different! Take a look...how many differences can you spot?

Did you know there are 15 National Parks in the UK? Y5 found out more about them today by looking at pictures and matching descriptions. We couldn't believe how amazingly beautiful they all were and the sheer size of them! Have you ever visited a National Park? Would you like to?
Year1 - Geography Field Trip

Year 1 have been doing lots of map work this half term. Earlier in the half term we identified lots of different aspects of our local area by highlighting them on a map. We were encouraged to use the correct geographical terms so were finding examples of economic activity (shops), open areas, residential areas, public services (schools, nurseries, libraries, hospitals) and transport.
Once we had highlighted these things on a map, we mapped out a good route that we could walk around where we could find these examples in the local area.
We were ready to go! We took ipads with us and took our own photographs of the things that we found - take a look.
When we got back to school we used our photographs and wrote a little bit about each thing, identifying them by their correct geographical term.

Year2 - Fruit News

In 2RD we have been learning about the 10 most popular fruits in Britain. We have tasted the different fruits and talked about our likes and dislikes. We have learnt that only five of the most popular fruits are grown in Britain. These include: plums, apples, grapes, tomatoes, peaches and pears. We found out that: oranges, bananas, pineapples, pears and mangoes are not grown in Britain. We then began to investigate why Costa Rica is a good place to grow bananas.
